Entry 5 : The Short Forms
“Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?”. ” Thou art more lovely and temperate “. How nice would it be to have every guy in this century speak like this? Sometimes I wish that we could go back to the Shakespearean era where the beauty of language was truly appreciate and people gave it due respect by crafting such beautiful sentences. Nowadays, everything has been cut short and abbreviated for convenience. Sometimes it’s cut down to the point that it becomes difficult to decipher. For example “Hw r u?M gr8. ” Is it truly that difficult to type out the whole sentence? If you truly want to know how that person if doing, you’d definitely want the person to understand clearly what you’re trying to say. Hence, do take time to construct your sentences. I find it annoying and troublesome when I have to spend time deciphering the short forms in messages. What’s worse some even bring this culture into their conversations. I’ve heard people saying “Lol” as opposed to laughing. Has it become that difficult to laugh too? Why are we substituting our feelings with abbreviations too? Ponder upon it. Our feelings are what makes us human and expressing it a part and parcel of life. So, please bear this in mind when you’re typing your next status on Facebook or when you’re sending your mum a message about how much you love her. Wouldn’t it be annoying to say “luv u”?
