Granny’s Brag Blog

You know you are a senior when
Your gray hairs out number your “natural” color
Pounds congregate around your middle and refuse to leave
You proudly request the senior discount
You are a card carrying AARP and Medicare member
You rely on your grandchildren to show you how to operate that new i-phone

But one of the universal telltale signs that you are a senior is frequently exclaiming “where did the years go?” This rhetorical question elicits embarrassed grins from younger folks who brace themselves for you to stick out your hand just below your waist and exclaim “I remember when you were only this high!”

We have arrived. Jacob’s senior year and last year for high school football. Where did the years go? I am positive it was only last week that he was a size 2 toddler. Now he is a 2 XX large. It was only yesterday that he climbed into my lap to hear his favorite stories again and again. And, he could interject “But not the Hippopotamus” at the right place. Now he has to bend down to give his granny a hug. It was only yesterday that I buckled him safely into his car seat in the back seat of my car. Now I look in the rear view mirror and I see him driving his own car. So it is bittersweet that this grandma finds herself at the beginning of Jacob’s senior year and last chance to brag about his high school football.

I am writing a journal versus e-mails for a couple of reasons. If you found granny’s bragging blog to be spamful, you have the option to not look. I’ll never know so you don’t have to worry about offending me or risk potentially being written out of my will. Second because I’m a senior invariably someone was dropped off the list that really wanted to read it. Most likely someone who digs my humor or has lots of free time to be on the Internet. ): So below is a list of game dates and locations and you can count on some log entry following each game. All but the first game is on Friday nights so a new entry will be posted by Saturday. If you ever want to experience high school football first hand, you are welcome to join us. If you can’t spot me, I am sure you will be able to hear me. It is my last chance to cheer in the high school football stands for Jacob who not only climbed into my lap but into my heart.
