Entry 7 : Love or Arranged?
Love marriages or arranged marriages? That seems to be the question every girl has in her mind as she enters her adulthood. Arranged marriages are very popular especially in India and China where the family of the bride or groom picks the future spouse of their daughter or son. Usually, selections are made due to family status, the repertoirè of the family and perhaps even due to other reasons such as race, religion, etc. in my opinion, I feel that arranged marriages sometimes can be rather scary because you might not know the person you’re about to marry thoroughly. Perhaps your parents chose your future spouse based on how they perceive him to be. Isn’t that scary? Usually arranged marriages are made before the bride and groom have a chance to meet or date. I find it difficult to comprehend how people can find this comforting and pleasing our parents. I find it scary because you wouldn’t know anything about your future spouse and by just agreeing to the marriage -Are we truly making ourselves happy or our parents? Don’t get me wrong, the put thought of pleasing our parents should always be in our mind and we should always strive to make them happy. But marriage is something that lasts for a lifetime. How are we going to lead a happy and long life with someone if we barely even know the person? However, love marriages are founded upon a person truly falling in love with another person’s character before taking the plunge into marriage. Well, not all love marriages end well either, divorce rates are rather high too. So, what’s the conclusion then ? Let’s debate.
