This Christmas season, our church is doing an outreach for the people of Durham. It is a unique outreach in the sense that the church is not doing it as a whole, but all the members are splitting up into small groups or even going out individually. I think this will be a huge blessing to the recipient and will bless us as just as much and I am very thankful to be a part of it. My brother and sister-in-law and I plan to go to a jail and/or homeless shelter and sing some songs, if the prison chaplain gives us permission. When we have done this in the past, the prisoners have said it gave them such great joy and what better way of showing God’s love? This is the reason for the season and I am thankful to be a part of it. I think churches and rescue missions and other such organizations do an awesome thing by reaching out to the homeless and those in need in special ways during the holiday season, to lift their spirits up and help make them feel loved. This has always been a huge desire on my heart – to help the downtrodden person feel accepted and cared for so this outreach opportunity is as much blessing to me as I hope it will be them.
