Apple spent at least an hour barking at me, as I lay motionless in bed. We both needed to go to the toilet. I slumped out of the covers, opened the back door and went straight for the bean bag. The only furniture we own right now. Hours passed. Somehow I don’t remember any of it. How did I do nothing without being bored? Or was the boredom so all consuming that it was better to blank out?
Helen came home and I felt embarrassed. She was smiling but it was thin.
“Ready to go?”
“I’ve told you so many times we’re -” blank.
“Oh. Okay, I’ll get up.”
Here I am at twelve in the evening not sure how I got here.
