September 2nd

I forget where I left off last, and what I’ve done since then.  I’ve been trying to force myself to feel more alive.  I’ve been getting back into old hobbies, getting out more, whatever I can really.

Earlier in the week, I had to take my sister and mother out to a medical appointment.  They were almost late.  I asked them to be ready at eight, we weren’t out of the house until after nine.  I was kind of pissed about it, because I managed to get my ass up at flippin’ 5AM to make this happen (it’s a LONG drive back home) and neither of them could manage to get out the door at 8?  Man!  We somehow managed to make it there.  Luckily, the appointments were in town, and we had some business out that way anyway.  While they were there, we ran around town window shopping.  My fiance is a huge Harry Potter fan, and while looking around a thrift store, I found a Harry Potter comforter.  It was practically new.  I saw it out of the corner of my eye, hidden on a shelf.  All I saw was a green eye, a little tuft of black hair, and a red robe- just a glance.  I took a chance on it, and I was very happy to see my hunch was correct.

From there, we went to a little outdoors superstore.  I love camping and outdoor activities.  I had been in that particular store once before, but we didn’t really get a chance to look around.  I was initially unimpressed.  By my fiance saw that the store was right next to the hospital and thought it’d be a good way to kill time while my family was seen by a doctor.  So I thought, well, it can’t hurt.  It was amazing.  I couldn’t believe it.  I was like a kid in a candy store.  I’ve got my gift wishlist set for life thanks to that place.  I want a dehydrator, meat grinder, sausage stuffer, jerky maker, cabin style extra large wall tent, cots for sleeping, extra wide and comfy camp chairs, and I’m not sure if I need a smoker, but I’m pretty sure I really, really want one.  When they were finished with their appointments, I made my mom and sister go back there with us.  They fought it, but like me, ended up loving it.

We had two days off.  That was day one.  Day two, we pretty much sat at home and relaxed.  The weather has been superb lately, nice and mild.  We’ve cooked together, cuddled, gotten a few things done here and there, played a few video games together, and I’m pretty sure we’re due to go swimming again soon.

I’m sitting here, relaxing with the windows open.  I’ve spent all morning prepping and baking a delicious au gratin potato dish.  Bake potato style, loaded with lots of cheese, bacon, and ranch seasoning.  I’ve also been trying to sneak more fruits and veggies into our diet.  Protip:  If you think you don’t like fruits and veggies, you really do.  Try pureeing them and mixing them into your food.  I hate big chunks of onion, but I pureed a bunch and turned it into a creamy cheese sauce for the potatoes.  You could also add celery for a little peppery flavor.  Carrot would have also been nice, but we’re on a tight budget.  Juicing is great too, but pureeing your veggies means you get all the nutrients, and all that good-for-you fiber.  I hate tomatoes, peppers, and onions, but I make a killer cheese sauce that’s one part cheese, two parts tomatoes/peppers/onions. and just a little bit of fat free cream.  The fruit and veggies add a ton of flavor and because they are pureed, you don’t even know they are there.  It’s a great way to eat less dairy and eat more veggies, and it’s absolutely delicious.

There’s plenty of things I have to get done today, so I’m off.  The potatoes are smelling about done, so I’ve got to check on them now.
