October 4th

October 4th is the feastday of St. Francis of Assisi.  The “little poor man” who wrote this prayer:

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love.  Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.  Oh Divine Master, grant that I may seek not so much to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved, as to love.  For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal Life.

  1. I love Francis. I am 90% sure he said one of the best sermons he knew was to “pick up a broom and begin sweeping.” He used to sweep out churches if he thought they needed it 🙂 amen to the Spirit of Christ.

  2. He also said, “Preach the gospel at all times. If necessary, use words.”
