In unit 6 (from our in class reading) we learn about sexual identity. Sexual identity is a set of sexual practices and attitudes that lead to the formation in a persons mind of an identity as heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual.
In the memoir we are taken back in time and learn that Amie and Jane started out as friends. Jane had a girlfriend at the time and was open about being a lesbian. Amie on the other hand had many failed relationships with men and began to develop feelings for Jane. Through their friendship (and later on their relationship) Amie discovered her own sexual identity.
