Snoochie is home

Today was a very exciting day for my family. The Man and I made the two hour drive to pick up Snoochie from the mental health facility and bring her home.

We talked with her medical team. Snoochie definately has NOT been faking her recent freak out. In fact, as far as diagnoses go – her dx scares me. The clinical term is Major Depressive Disorder other wise known as Psychotic Depression. She’s on some heavy duty medication. I already know of this disorder. I’m stunned that my 11 year old child has this disorder.

We will always have to monitor her mental health. We will always have to provide her with medication. She will always need a psychiatrist. All of this will be worth it because she has such a bright future ahead of her.

Tonight we had an ice cream party to celebrate Snoochie’s home coming. We had been able to visit her on Sunday and she requested lots of ice cream for when she came home.

I must admit seeing Snoochie under the influence of antidepressants and antipsychotic drugs is a bit shocking. She can not stop taking any of this medication cold turkey. I hope we can find a level so that she does not seem so foggy and hazed.

I’m so glad she is home. We can figure out the rest as we go along.

  1. I’m so glad for you that your baby girl is home! I know your heart aches. But you responded to her so beautifully with an ice cream extravaganza! I do that for my grandson, who has mental issues —he loves donuts best. I think more and more young people are on anti-psychotic medication… Matthew is. I love your determination. The last line of your entry is so strong and true and inspires me to be stronger. Love and hugs and prayers.
