Today was my first official day of work. I didn’t have to teach, just observe. I got a little stressed out/freaked out/pissed this morning. The superintendent came in to talk to the staff before school. He told them there would not be mandatory summer school this year, but they would still get paid 10% more than DOE even though they would not be working. This just pissed me off because of the low ball deal I got. Today, I was wishing I had gone to Public Prep. I feel like my deal changed after I accepted the job- well, I don’t feel, it did change. In our first conversation, the principal told me I would be teaching 4 45 minute classes. After I accepted the job, it became 4 8th grade and 2 7th grade, which I am not happy about at all. I don’t know why he told me that??? I haven’t seen him either day I’ve been at the school this week. I just really felt overwhelmed today. My room is trashed because there hasn’t been a teacher all year, the money stuff pisses me off because I feel like I have been taken advantage of, and having to teach 2 grade levels and manage 6 classes of kids I’m not happy about. If my deal was still 4 classes of a single grade, I would feel better about the shitty pay. I just cannot believe they just don’t have a teacher period! why not at least hire a shitty teacher?? A shitty teacher would be better than no teacher. It’s not like they would be stuck with the person. There are no contracts.
I don’t know. Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything, but I think my issues are valid. The assistant principal’s reason for the teachers that only have 4 classes was that they have other responsibilities, like lunchroom duty. I will watch the lunchroom all damn day- no papers to grade, no lessons to plan, etc. How is that the same? I just am wanting it to be fair, and it’s not.
