There’s something satisfying about making progress. I spent a good part of the day completing a scavenger hunt for various documents required for the next stage of my life. As I checked each thing off the list, I began to feel a growing sense of excitement, not only that I was almost done with my task, but the fact that I was making real life and career progress. It was one of the few times that I actually felt progress, even though I know I’ve been making real progress for the last 6 years. Today it felt real.
At the same time, though, it’s also a little scary. I’m going to transition from the same people and places I’ve become accustomed to over the last several years to a completely different place thousands of miles away and not one single familiar face among the lot of them. It’s scary, but exciting too! Maybe I’ll meet me new best friend, or the people who I will share great memories with. Maybe some of them will be dicks too (I guess that’s more scary than exciting).
Anyway, the point being that progress is fantastic. I think everyone should find a way to make some progress. Whether it’s paying off a ridiculously large loan, or transitioning to a new job, or simply finishing a weekend’s long project. In some way or another, you should set a goal for yourself and make some progress.
