Today’s scripture is powerful. It teaches we cannot just have faith without showing it to others and working to prove our faith. Doing for others, providing for need. It teaches us even if we have faith, but do not do good with our faith, we are not true to what we believe.
“So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”
There are so many people in the world who consider themselves Christian, attend church service and set out a nativity scene at Christmas, but do they practice their faith in daily life, show kindness to others, and provide where there is need and they are able? Do they practice what they preach?
I’d like to think I do, but I would have to ask others if they see that in me. If they see me providing to others in need, without expectation or favour, as a way to show my faith.
Maybe I need to watch myself and learn. In yoga meditation we reflect deeply, sometimes practicing looking down at our person laying quietly on the mat. Who do we see? Are we looking at the person we are or the person we want to be? I may use this technique to study my works of faith and consider if I am honouring this Scripture.
