advice for university

  1. Make an effort with your flatmates. this is one of my regrets. it’s easy not to realise you’re spending a lot of time with other people in freshers but it does help if you can be good friends with your flatmates too even if you don’t have all that much in common
  2. Buy a fresher’s wristband if your university has them. Fresher’s parties are a lot of fun and a good way to meet people
  3. Even if you don’t feel like going out on the first couple of nights, go anyway. This is how I met 2 of my best friends from uni
  4. Cook with people
  5. Don’t stop making an effort after fresher’s week is over. still talk to new people
  6. Make phoning home NOT an every day thing, if you can. Especially if you’re missing home a lot
  7. Keep busy. will stop you from missing home
  8. Go home sometimes but not too often, especially not in freshers week (every 6 weeks or so worked for me)
  9. Don’t worry too much about relationships which don’t work out. You’re young, and it probably won’t be long before you meet someone who makes you glad your last relationship ended
  10. Keep your faith, if you have one. The first year of university can be very up and down and it’s good to have something that will never change, someone who will never stop loving you, when everything else is changing¬†
  11. Watch out for the microwave. They’re cunning little things. Try not to set them on fire
