Trying to get pregnant

Let me preface this with the fact that I am not a writer, I am just a 34 year old woman that has been trying to get pregnant for a year and a half and I often wonder that if I were to share my story; would I be able to help anyone?

Here it goes…!

I have been on birth control since I was 16 years old, I suffered from terrible cramps and irregular periods.  I then spent the next 18 years doing everything I could to NOT get pregnant.  My husband and I were married in August of 2016 and we went off birth control in June of 2016 to get it “out of my system” and we didn’t care if I was a month or two pregnant at the wedding.  It has now been about 18 months and it has been an emotional roller coaster I never imagined would be my life.

After 9 months of trying on our own we decided to go to a fertility center to see if they had any insight and after several tests I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility… great… still no explanation… now what?

We began with IUI – this is where they take your husbands sperm sample and put it into a catheter and insert it directly into you as close to the eggs as possible.  It doesn’t hurt at all but the hormones (clomid) that you take leading up to the procedure can be brutal.  My mood swings were off the charts and I found myself apologizing a lot for my reactions and sensitivity, but it could be worse, right?

After 3 cycles and no pregnancy we decided to go the holistic approach, acupuncture once a week; numerous supplements and yoga.  This was a very relaxing time for me but after 3 months without any result I had to go back to the doctors.

The fertility center suggest we skip the inject-able hormones with IUI and go strait to IVF.  This is where they harvest your eggs and pair them with your husbands sperm to create embryos.  We were told to do a frozen cycle so that they can test the embryos for abnormalities and the gender of the baby.  My husband and I were 100% on board until they told us that our insurance does not cover it and we would have to pay up to $20,000 out of our pocket for the procedure! That was a shock! After deliberating for a few nights we decided to go back for more rounds of IUI – with double doses of Clomid – talk about hot flashes!!!!

We just were inseminated on Monday so in about two weeks we will know what is happening and if it worked… until then I wait…
