It wasn’t easy, but here is how I lost over 100 pounds. 

Step One: I realized I was worth it. This step was the hardest. I was told by my own step father that I was “fat”, let alone the kids at school. The Internet is full of comments about obese and overweight people, so I found no solace there either. I had to first love myself, before I could begin to make myself healthier. 

Step Two: I started taking better care of myself. This step revolved around making a simple to-do list. I followed this to-do list every day:

  1. Get 8 hours of sleep. 
  2. Drink plenty of water. Asides from tea, coffee & the occasional splash of milk, I began to strictly drink water.
  3. Eat healthy. I began to model my day-to-day meal plan after the Mediterranean diet. I removed processed foods and focused on whole foods. 

There were days where I failed. There are days where I still fail. Sometimes I don’t get enough sleep, sometimes I eat out of stress, and sometimes I just stop caring. This is where the next step comes in.

Step Three: I never gave up. Not really, anyway. Sometimes I would lose hope for a day , a few weeks, or even a few months. However, I always went back to step one. I know I am worth the investment in my health — and so are you. 

I know this is all overly simplified and weight loss is so much more complicated than a three step plan. I have to go for now but I promise I will elaborate at a future date. If I can do it, I genuinely believe most other people can too (barring serious medical illnesses). Regardless, please continue to have hope and, most importantly, love yourself.
