“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
I don’t know about you, but I love bread! The excitement of tearing into a fresh loaf of bread is even now making my mouth water (that will teach me to write before breakfast!).
But, I hope that gives you a glimpse into what Jesus is declaring about living in His name in this verse. We often describe daily bread ‘as getting the word into us’ and when He faced Satan in the desert, Jesus embodied the importance of daily feeding on the world. However, in this verse, it seems that Jesus is saying HE is the bread of life, not just His words. It is His very presence that gives us life. As we take time to live in Him, to let him love us; we find life. Jesus becomes our very daily bread. As we hunger for Him and his ways, just like I hunger for freshly baked bread, the very presence of Jesus fuels and sustains us.
Jesus, we come to you today as our provider, our sustainer, our life-giving bread. We ask now at this moment for a greater revelation of your love for us. We rest in your grace, knowing you sustain us, knowing we live and have our being in you. Refresh and refuel us today we pray. AMEN.
