Isaiah 66:2, What Pleases God

What can man offer God that would please Him? The Lord, after all, is holy and immortal. Neither polished speech, nor robust communication, please the Lord. Neither does accumulated knowledge, or an academic mind. It is not religious performance nor a works-based motivation that pleases the Lord. No, what pleases God is a humble, contrite, and genuine spirit. This kind of character exhibits an others-first, me-last kind of disposition. It is selfless rather than selfish. Knowing God is the source of blessing, not the means to secure material treasure. In summary, what pleases God is humbling yourself and holding true to His word.

Isaiah 66:2 “‘Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?’ declares the Lord. ‘These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.’” (NIV)
